Cloud of grasses and purple blooms

Do you want to dive into an ocean of softness and voluptuousness? Take inspiration from this massif of “La Chambre des Nuages” at the Jardins de Villandry near Tours (37).

For this, a few tall and easy perennials will quickly structure the space in order to dramatize a silvery blue wave of softness from the first year.

To start well

The ideal is to have a flower bed at least 3 to 5m wide by 2m deep in order to intensify this impression of opulence.

The plants mentioned here require little maintenance and adapt to all terrains. The ideal exposure will remain very sunny and a relatively draining ground.

The plantation

Prepare the soil by loosening it without turning. At the same time, add a little potting soil, decomposed or dehydrated manure or compost. Make sure the soil is well drained. If necessary, raise its level or incorporate gravel.

Spread crushed scratching horn to incorporate it on the surface. Plant the agapanthus in spring or summer to give it time to settle and grow stronger before spending its first winter as well as possible, the other plants can be planted all year round. Water these plants immediately after planting and then until complete recovery.

Spread an organic or mineral mulch between the clumps to keep the soil free of weeds and cool in summer.

The interview

These plants will require no maintenance, just cut back the clumps of foliage and dry stubble at the end of winter (March). These perennials are able to last for many years in the same place without too much care.
